InterContinental Hotels Group has signed on to the new-build, 199-room Crowne Plaza Medellin, which will open in the Colombian city in 2018. The property will be in the upscale El Poblado neighborhood, part of the Palmanova mixed-use development. "Colombia is an important market for IHG in Latin America," noted Joel Eisemann, chief development officer for the Americas at IHG. "We are extremely enthused about this Crowne Plaza project, which will feature a modern design that is in line with the new, fresh image and direction in which the Crowne Plaza brand is going.” The hotel will feature a rooftop pool bar that will offer 360-degree views of the city, as well as a ground-level restaurant and lobby bar, a 4,500-square-foot ballroom and an additional 1,000 square feet of meeting space.
