The Metro Council of Portland, Ore., has chosen a development group to head up the construction of a headquarters hotel for the 400,000-square-foot Oregon Convention Center. Making up the team are Mortenson Development Inc., Hyatt Hotels Corp., Mortenson Construction, Schlesinger Cos., Ankrom Moisan Associated Architects, Elness Swenson Graham Architects, Piper Jaffray and Co., and Jones Long LaSalle Hotels. The council did not choose a specific proposal for the size of the hotel. Currently under consideration are a 600-room Hyatt Regency, or a 420-room Hyatt Regency and a 181-room Hyatt Place side-by-side; the project would be funded by private investment. Read more about the proposals in our blog, the Hotel Insider. In December, the development will team present the Council with an update and a potential financing package.
