Walt Disney Co. has canceled plans to build a 500-room resort hotel at National Harbor near Washington, D.C., according to the Washington Post. In May 2009, Disney purchased 11 acres in Maryland's Prince George's County for $11 million, but the land now will be incorporated back into the larger plan for the National Harbor, reported Travel Weekly. "Given the full slate of expansion currently underway at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the timing isn't right to proceed with another new project of this scale," said Disney spokesperson. "We remain focused on new Disney experiences currently in the pipeline, which include a new cruise ship, a massive expansion of Fantasyland at Walt Disney World, Cars Land at California Adventure, plans for the new AVATAR land at Animal Kingdom, our expansion of Hong Kong Disneyland and our new Shanghai Disney Resort, which is currently under construction in China."
