The lodging options have grown at the Galleria Dallas, one of the largest shopping malls in the United States. A new Marriott property opened nearby last week: the dual-branded AC Hotel and Residence Inn Dallas by the Galleria.

Owned by Pacific Hospitality Group Ventures Inc., which acquired the property from developer Atlantic Hotels Group, the hotel is part of Dallas Midtown, a 400-acre, $3.5 billion mixed-use development in North Dallas that ultimately will include a large athletic and wellness facility; a 10-screen movie theater; 6.5 million square feet of office space; more than 1 million square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space; 9,000 residential units; an 18-story luxury hotel; a 20-acre park, and a modern trolley system connecting the area to the Galleria.

One of Midtown's first projects, the AC Hotel and Residence Inn Dallas by the Galleria has 256 rooms across five floors: 140 guest rooms belong to the AC Hotel and 116 residential-style suites make up the Residence Inn. The property also has a bar and lounge, a fitness center, an outdoor pool and more than 17,000 square feet of meeting space.

"The AC Hotel and Residence Inn Dallas by the Galleria is our company's first hotel in Texas and our first dual-branded Marriott property," said Tim Busch, CEO and founder of PHG. "We are excited to offer a hotel that reflects the growing entrepreneurial-minded business scene in the Dallas Fort Worth area. This property offers two unique and complementary options that leisure and business travelers, alike, will appreciate -- a stylish, seamless experience at AC, or comforts of a home away from home at Residence Inn."

While most travelers are familiar with Marriott's extended-stay brand, Residence Inn, they may not be as acquainted with AC Hotels. A subsidiary of Marriott since 2011, it was established in 1998 by Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalán, who subsequently opened more than 90 design-centric hotels in Spain, Portugal and Italy. Today, the brand has more than 120 hotels in 15 countries and territories -- including the United States, where AC Hotel Dallas by the Galleria is one of nearly 40 members in the brand.
