Element Hotels, Starwood's eco-chic brand, has achieved LEED Volume Pre-Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its prototype design; the designation automatically qualifies new Element properties to pursue the LEED designation. The pre-certified prototype is based on Element's Lexington, Mass., property, where sustainable practices have led to 20 percent more energy-efficiency and a 23 percent reduction in water use.
