The 2,000-room Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., is adding a $20 million freestanding ballroom that will add 16,000 square feet to the property's 426,969 square feet of meeting space. The new building, opening in fall 2016, will be on the banks of the Potomac River; glass windows on three sides will look on the river, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and Old Town Alexandria. As part of the project, the Orchard Terrace will be expanded to 39,000 square feet, reopening in September.
