Group occupancy is up by 2.5 percent and average daily rate for groups up by 2.3 percent year-over-year for confirmed bookings in the first quarter of 2014, according to the March 2014 TravelClick North America Hospitality Review. Looking at the next 12 months, group occupancy is up by 3.9 percent vs. this time last year, but average daily rate is down by 0.4 percent. First-quarter bookings overall, including both transient and group business, show a 2.6 percent rise in occupancy and a 2.8 percent climb in rate. “The first quarter of 2014 is strong, with both the group and transient segments experiencing gains across the board,” noted TravelClick executive vice president of business intelligence Tim Hart. “Looking out into Q2, we see that the transient segment is doing particularly well, which is likely due to the fact that the Easter holiday falls in April this year.”
