The 150-room Heathman Hotel in Portland, Ore., has been awarded the Green Seal Silver Certification for its environmental efforts. The property's green initiatives include purchasing more than 30 percent of its electricty from carbon-neutral wind energy sources; composting more than 90 percent of food waste; using Green Seal cleaning products; recycling soap and shampoo, which is donated to city and county shelters; using local foods and wines; and recycling all paper, glass and cans. The Heathman was built in 1927 and offers 3,800 square feet of meeting space.
