A new 4,000-square-foot Starbucks Coffee outlet has opened in the lobby of the 1,200-room Hilton Americas-Houston, which is connected by skybridge to the George R. Brown Convention Center. Houston First Corp., the hotel's owner, entered into a license agreement earlier this year to bring in the franchise, offering the usual Starbucks menu as well as the limited edition Starbucks Reserve coffees and an expanded menu in the evening offering small plates, curated wines and beers.

"These amenities certainly benefit hotel guests, of course, but they create a destination for other visitors, too," said Ric Campo, chairman of Houston First. "We think this approach creates a pedestrian-friendly environment. The area around the convention center is flourishing and becoming a true destination, not strictly a meeting place."

The hotel has more than 90,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 24th-floor terrace for evening events, and two restaurants.
