Hilton held a formal groundbreaking ceremony today for its first tri-branded property, a combined Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites at Chicago's McCormick Place. Hilton is partnering with developer First Hospitality Group on the project, which will open in late 2018.
 
"Serving as a premier hub of international commerce attracting nearly 3 million visitors a year, McCormick Place is the ideal location to build Hilton's first triple-brand hotel and bring even greater exposure to three of our category-leading brands," noted Jim Holthouser, Hilton's executive vice president of global brands.
 
In total, the 379,500-square-foot hotel development will have 23 floors and offer 466 guest rooms and suites. The triple branding allows for shared construction and zoning, and saves the owners on operational costs. Guests benefit from larger communal areas and amenities than they typically might find in properties for any one of those brands. 
 
Each of the three hotels will have its own lobby and dining area but will share amenities such as an exercise room, an indoor pool, a business center and 7,000 square feet of meeting space spread among six meeting rooms.
 
Food-and-beverage options will include a 9,500-square-foot rooftop dining lounge, to be developed by Concentrics Restaurants, with views of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago. The restaurant will be designated as Hilton Garden Inn's dining option, but it will be open to all hotel guests as well as the general public. Separate Hampton and Home2Suties dining areas will serve complimentary breakfasts to their respective guests.
 
The combined property also will offer two street-level restaurants -- an upscale American-Italian bistro and a bar/tavern, plus a Starbucks café.
 
First Hospitality Group also will own and manage the hotels, and manage the on-site Starbucks. The project promises about 350 full-time jobs and 600 construction jobs.
