Hilton Hotels & Resorts has inked a deal to open the first property of its flagship brand in Medellin, Colombia. The 25-story, 206-room hotel is expected to debut in the second quarter of 2019, in a development that also will include retail, office space and non-Hilton residential units.

The development will be on Avenida de las Palmas, a thoroughfare in the upscale El Poblado neighborhood. Construction has been surging in Medellin, the Latin American business hub known as the "City of Eternal Spring" and Colombia's second-largest metropolis.

Plans for the new hotel include more than 21,500 square feet of meeting space, including a nearly 6,500-square-foot ballroom and five meeting rooms. Amenities will include an outdoor pool and a whirlpool, an executive lounge, a fitness center, a restaurant, a piano bar, a spa and a salon.

The Hilton Medellin is one of nine Hilton projects in the pipeline for Colombia. Currently, the hospitality giant has 14 properties open in the country.
