The Pittsburgh city-planning commission has approved plans to convert the city's James Reed Building into a 249-room Hotel Monaco, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The nine-story, Beaux Arts-style building on Sixth Avenue was purchased last year by developer PMC Property Group. The new hotel, which will be a few blocks from the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, will include a rooftop hospitality suite, a fitness center, a restaurant and meeting space, according to the report. The property is expected to open next summer. Kimpton would not comment, as the deal still is being finalized.
