Smith Travel Research's preliminary statistics for U.S. hotels in May showed significant year-over-year increases in occupancy and revenue per available room, the company indicated, although official results won't be available until later this week. Both occupancy and RevPAR climbed between 6 and 8 percent, according to the early figures. U.S. RevPAR hasn't risen by more than 6 percent since October 2007.
