Hyatt Hotels Corp. and Unite Here, the hotel workers's union, have reached an agreement that allows talks on a proposed headquarters hotel at the Oregon Convention Center to proceed, according to the Oregonian. A proposal from Hyatt, Mortenson Development Inc. and the Schlesinger family has been chosen by the city for one or two Hyatt properties to be built near the convention center, on the condition that Hyatt and Unite Here agree to work together. The two factions, however, still are at odds, particularly in Chicago, over contracts and working conditions. The Metro Council of Portland did not choose a specific proposal for the size of the hotel. Currently under consideration are a 600-room Hyatt Regency, or a 420-room Hyatt Regency and a 181-room Hyatt Place side-by-side; the project would be funded by private investment. The development team is expected to present the council with a potential financing package in December.
