Hyatt is breaking ground today on a two-hotel development in Oceanside, Calif., in San Diego County near the Oceanside Amtrak station. The adjacent hotels will open under the Joie de Vivre and Destination Hotels brands, respectively. Hyatt acquired both brands when it purchased Two Roads Hospitality last fall.
The new-build, 2.75-acre project, the largest oceanfront development in the county in the last 10 years, is expected to be completed in 2020.

The 161-room Joie de Vivre property will include the renovated 1887 Graves House seen in the movie Top Gun. The boutique hotel also plans to provide a restaurant, a rooftop pool and bar, and more than 3,000 square feet of retail space.

The 226-room Destination resort will have a 9,000-square-foot pool deck with ocean views, as well as a restaurant, a bar and lounge, a luxury spa, a library and more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space.

The hotels are being developed by S.D. Malkin Properties and designed by San Diego-based architectural firm Delawie.
