Jim Abrahamson, until this week the president and executive director of the Americas region for InterContinental Hotels Group, announced Monday that he was resigning in order to become president and COO at Interstate Hotels & Resorts. Abrahamson will become CEO of the independent lodging management company before the end of the year, as current CEO Thomas F. Hewitt transitions to the role of chairman. Interstate is in the midst of dramatic growth, adding more than 100 new hotels to its portfolio this year. The company now manages 334 properties in nine countries. At IHG, Kirk Kinsell immediately was appointed as the new president of the Americas; he previously was president of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. The current CFO of that territory, Paul Edgecliffe-Johnson, will succeed Kinsell in his old post.
