Eleven developer/designer teams have responded to the Houston First Corp., as the search for a group to build a new hotel near the George R. Brown Convention Center moves forward. The new property could cost $400 million to build. Houston First runs the center and owns its main hotel, the 1,200-room Hilton Americas Houston. A design and development team could be chosen as early as this summer. "Undertaking a project of this magnitude requires a team with a proven track record of success, financial strength and a vision of Houston's future," said board chairman Ric Campo in a statement. "We have a lot of due diligence to do before we are ready to make any recommendations going forward." Currently, the city has 2,955 hotel rooms within a 10-minute walk of the convention center.
