Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will manage a new 87-room luxury hotel in Manchester, Vt. The project, a joint venture between Florida-based developer Heaton Companies, local partner Clark French and Boston financial partner Janet Jiang of First Cambridge Capital, will open this fall as the Taconic Hotel, named for the nearby mountains. The property will feature guest rooms with views of the Taconic and Green mountain ranges, as well as three standalone cottages. A 110-seat tavern with 75 outdoor patio seats will serve regional American fare, in particular Vermont's comfort food. The hotel also will feature a 2,600-square-foot ballroom and an outdoor event venue.
Manchester is close to two ski resorts -- Bromley and Stratton -- along with a host of other outdoor pursuits including boating on Emerald Lake, fly-fishing, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.

"Given the popularity we've experienced in Vermont's primary drive markets of New York and Boston, where Kimpton already operates a combined seven hotels, it was a logical decision to extend our footprint here and be a part of this exciting project," said Kimpton CEO Mike DeFrino. "The Taconic also offered us the opportunity to create a gorgeous year-round destination resort and to partner again with Heaton Companies, with whom we've had great success at our Vero Beach Hotel & Spa in Florida."

With a nod to the area's grand resorts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Taconic's exterior will be highlighted by classic clapboard and shingle-style architecture and anchored by large wrap-around porches and porch columns.
