The 251-room Laylow, Autograph Collection -- formerly the Aqua Wave Waikiki -- has been unveiled following a $60 million overhaul. The "Hawaii Modern-style" property, which was built in 1967, is the first Oahu hotel to join Marriott's Autograph Collection. The property is on Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki, an area undergoing a renaissance of sorts with the opening of new restaurants, hotels and shops, and within walking distance of Waikiki Beach, the 75-shop International Market Place, Kapiolani Park and the Waikiki Shell.

Guest rooms and public areas sport nostalgic details like authentic mid-20th century modern furnishings, teak accents, palm-patterned wallpaper and woven lanterns. Among the hotel's offerings are complimentary WiFi; a rooftop restaurant, the Hideout, which serves Hawaiian-fusion dishes such as a musubi appetizer topped with house-made spam; Stumptown Coffee Roasters, which serves breakfast; a fitness center; and a second-floor pool and gathering area with lush greenery, lounge seating and teak accents.
