AC Hotels by Marriott, a joint venture between Marriott International and Spanish hotelier AC Hotels, will make its way from Europe to North and South America, Marriott announced this week at the NYU International Hospitality Investment Conference. The venture, which was launched in 2011, has led to a portfolio of 79 hotels in Spain, Italy, Portugal and France. "By importing AC Hotels by Marriott into the U.S., we believe we can increase Marriott's overall market share among younger business travelers," noted Brian King, global brand officer of Marriott Endorsed Brands. The lifestyle brand will be in the upper-moderate lodging tier and offer modern lobbies with an AC Lounge that serves small plates, cocktails, and wine and craft beers. Both guests and nonguests will be able to book workspace in the lobbies. The hotels will offer free Wi-Fi and a full breakfast buffet. Marriott hopes to open the first American property by the end of this year; likely destinations include Miami, San Diego and New York City.
