A New York state judge ordered owners of the Waikiki Edition to return the hotel to Marriott’s control by 2:30 p.m. Honolulu time yesterday. The owners, who claimed Marriott failed in its management of the resort, changed the signs and locks under cover of night last Sunday.  Later, Modern Management Services LLC was named the new management company, and the 353-room property was dubbed Modern Honolulu despite a 30-year contract allowing Marriott to run the hotel as Edition. Ed Ryan, Marriott International executive vice president and general counsel, said in a statement, “We took swift legal action following this event and are gratified that a New York court ordered operational control and management of the Waikiki Edition returned to us pursuant to our contract.”
