Marriott International and Ian Schrager will debut their Edition brand in Japan in the form of two new properties in Tokyo. Both the Tokyo Edition, Ginza, and the Tokyo Edition, Toranomon, are expected to open in 2020.

Each property of the luxury lifestyle Edition brand, a partnership between Marriott and Schrager, is unique to its time and location. As such each of the Tokyo hotels will be designed to reflect their respective neighborhoods.

The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, will be just off of Chuo Street, Ginza's main shopping district. The 13-story, 80-room hotel will be near Ginza-Itchome Station and Tokyo Station, as well as shopping complexes, restaurants and attractions such as the Tokyo Imperial Palace. Groundbreaking is scheduled for May 2018, with a March 2020 opening.

The 200-room Tokyo Edition, Toranomon, will be part of the city's central business district. It will be within the Pastoral Building redevelopment, a mixed-use project with offices, residences and a medical center. The project is in the Minato ward, in walking distance of Kamiyacho Station and Roppongi-Itchome Station, and close to government offices, embassies and consulates, corporate offices, retail, dining, and cultural sites such as Akasaka Palace and Meiji Shrine. Excavation work already has begun on the development, and the hotel is slated open in 2020.

"We are thrilled to sign two new Edition hotels in Tokyo, Japan's dynamic capital, where pulsing modernity meets vibrant customs, compelling cuisine and much more," said Anthony Capuano, executive vice president and global chief development office, Marriott International. "Tokyo serves as the perfect setting for the Edition brand."
