Spanish hotel company Sol Melia officially changed its name on Friday to Melia Hotels International, reflecting the company's global expansion goals. A new strategic plan for 2012 to 2014 calls for the creation of two new divisions within the company, Asia Pacific and real estate. Currently the chain has more than 350 properties across 35 countries in its portfolio. Last week the company unveiled new meetings search functionality, "Opportunity Dates," which allows planners to search by date for the best group rates (msm-opportunitydates.com).
