The Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono, Pa., has unveiled a $40 million expansion that includes a 20,000-square-foot event center and 100 guest rooms, bringing the room count total to 288.

"The event center combined with our first-class spa, indoor-outdoor pool, Four-Diamond hotel, Hal Purdy-designed golf course and gourmet dining now provides a complete experience," said Todd Greenberg, COO and general manager of the property. "We believe all event-center visitors will appreciate how conveniently located our ballrooms and meeting space are to both parking and the hotel room towers. There is a separate entrance and they don't have to walk through the casino if they don't want to."

The resort partnered with architectural firm Friedmutter Group, known for its work at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and Harrah's Resort Atlantic City, to design this multimillion-dollar expansion. A highlight of the space is a 30-foot-long steel-and-glass chandelier, and colors that evoke the natural surroundings of the Poconos; natural light abounds.

The project added a 16,000-square-foot grand ballroom and 4,000 square feet of prefunction space with a bar that joins the 4,000 square feet of existing meeting space in the resort area of the property. Mount Airy now has 24,000 square feet of meeting space in total, as well as a 27,000 square-foot outdoor concert pavilion that opened last May.

The resort, set against the Pocono Mountains, also has more than 1,800 slot machines and 80 table games, a full-service spa, celebrity-chef restaurants including Guy Fieri's Mt. Pocono Kitchen and Bistecca by Il Mulino, a lakefront 18-hole golf course, an indoor and outdoor pool, and a nightclub.
