Naïa Resort and Spa, a boutique luxury resort with 35 beach houses, will officially open in January 2017 on the Placencia Peninsula in Belize. The property is on a 200-acre private reserve in southern Belize, near the hemisphere's largest barrier reef.

The beach houses, which include studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom options, all have private ocean-view verandas, air conditioning, complimentary WiFi, deep soaking tubs, private outdoor showers amidst tropical foliage. All units have a wet bar with refrigerator and coffee maker, while two- and three-bedroom units have full kitchens. Those larger units also have seafront pool decks.

The 10,000-square-foot spa and wellness complex, set among a series of lagoons, includes five individual treatment rooms and a private couple's suite. A fitness center and a yoga and movement studio overlook the lagoons and open out onto a veranda and yoga lawn.

Three restaurants are on-site, including a beach bar and grill, a spa café and an upscale waterfront restaurant called 1981 -- named after the year Belize gained independence. The latter has an upstairs section that can be rented out for groups as large as 68 people. Outdoor event space can handle groups of up to 50.

While the grand opening of the resort will occur in January, Naïa is offering discounted rates for guests beginning in mid-November.
