The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has signed on to manage a new 196-room luxury hotel and branded residences being developed in Melbourne, Australia. The hotel, which will be the first Mandarin Oriental in Australia, will open in 2023.

The plans for the hotel and residences, which will be part of a mixed-use in the city's central business district, were designed by the late Dame Zaha Hadid, one of the world's foremost female architects. The design of the Mandarin Oriental, Melbourne, aims to reflect local culture married with features inspired by Mandarin Oriental's oriental heritage. MOHG also will manage the 148 Residences at Mandarin Oriental on the tower's upper floors.

Amenities at the hotel will include an all-day dining restaurant and a bar with a landscaped roof terrace, as well as an executive club lounge and a Spa at Mandarin Oriental with a fitness center and an indoor pool. The amount of meeting space has yet to be determined. The project is being helmed by Landream, a Melbourne-based property developer.
