Omni Hotels & Resorts put in the winning bid of $67.1 million for the Amelia Island Plantation in northeast Florida. The result of the auction, held on Aug. 23, is contingent on the approval of the Amelia Island Co.'s Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan at a court hearing on Thursday. Omni officials expect to take over full ownership and operation of the plantation this fall, and to expand the resort with 125 new guest rooms and a new 16,000-square-foot ballroom. Currently, the property features 249 guest rooms and numerous one-, two- and three-bedroom villas, plus 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, 54 holes of golf, a tennis center, a spa and more.
