According to local news reports, on Sunday night Oregon lawmakers promised $10 million in lottery bonds to help build a 600-room Hyatt near the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. The property is scheduled to be built in partnership with Mortensen Development; if funding can be secured, ground would be broken on the $200 million hotel sometime in 2015. To be seen is how an opposition group of private hoteliers will choose to protest the project. Metro, the elected regional government for the Portland metropolitan area, continues to negotiate with Mortenson and Hyatt to put the financial pieces together.
