Plans to build a 1,200-room Marriott Marquis convention hotel just west of McCormick Place hit a legal obstacle when the site owner sued the city of Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune. The owner, 121 E. Cermak LLC, an entity led by construction executive James McHugh, had filed a permit application to build a data center on the site, while the Chicago City Council authorized the filing of an eminent domain lawsuit to appropriate the land for the hotel. The plaintiffs contend that the city's plans for the hotel do not constitute reason enough to deny the permit for the data center.
