RIU Hotels & Resorts beefed up its meeting and convention facilities in Mexico's Riviera Maya on July 22 with the opening of the RIU Playacar Convention Center. The US$2.5 million facility, which is next to the 664-room ClubHotel Riu Tequila, also will serve the meetings at RIU's five other properties in Playa del Carmen, which include the Riu Palace Mexico, Riu Palace Riviera Maya, Riu Playacar, Riu Yucatan and Riu Lupita. In total, the company offers 2,700 rooms in Playa del Carmen. The 8,070-square-foot convention center can be divided into five rooms and accommodates up to 600 people for banquets. The venue is outfitted with Internet access, and a kitchen is on-site.
