The Renaissance brand has debuted in Mexico in the form of the 180-room Renaissance Cancun Resort & Marina. The downtown Cancún lifestyle property is part of the Puerto Cancún community and marina, which also offers a golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf, residential towers and a shopping mall with restaurants and movie theaters.
The resort features whimsical design elements inspired by Mayan mythology - specifically, the journey a soul is said to take after death, traveling through the cenotes to the mystical underworld of Xibalbá. "Just as the Mayan underworld is a universe worth discovering, Renaissance Cancun Resort & Marina is a space full of stories waiting to be told," said general manager Karina Zuñiga. "Stories that will awake the explorer within us, when we allow ourselves to be inspired by the unexpected."
 
The lobby art pays homage both to Mayan culture and local nature, from a deconstructed sculpture of the sacred Mayan ceiba tree to wire sculptures resembling mollusks, surrounded by natural wood, stones and polished ceramics. Guest rooms offer views of either the ocean, marina or golf course.
 
Among the food-and-beverage options are the Zek Bar, with a deejay table that connects the lobby and terrace; the Káajal Restaurant, serving local cuisine; the Nüup Deli Café, offering coffee and light bites; and Merotoro, a new outpost of the popular Mexico City restaurant with a menu of Baja California cuisine designed by acclaimed chef and Tijuana native Jair Téllez.
 
The property's nine event rooms encompass 8,277 square feet of meeting space, with the largest able to accommodate up to 270 people.
 
Renaissance brand ambassadors known as Navigators are on-site to help connect travelers and attendees to local flavor, direct them to attractions and arrange nearby activities.
