A $45 million project will begin later this year at the 289-room Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa in Houston. The wooded Texas property occupies 27 acres in the city's Galleria area.

"We are fortunate to operate a property with distinctive buildings, abundant trees and open spaces," said John Durie, president and CEO of Houstonian Campus, LLC. "The master plan confirms our commitment to enhancing our place among the most enduring luxury properties in Texas."

All the hotel's guest rooms will be completely remodeled, with interior designs chosen by Kate Lange & Associates. The Great Room lobby will be updated, and an indoor/outdoor restaurant overlooking the resort and its pool areas will be added, as will an event deck overlooking Buffalo Bayou, perfect for outdoor movies and gatherings. The award-winning Trellis Spa will receive a complete refurbishment that will include a luxury outdoor water experience.

"The Houstonian is a place of endearing memories for those we have had the honor of serving over our 40-year history. We are making this investment to ensure this iconic property, which bears the name of our world-class city, may be a part of the life of the next generation of Houstonians, and those who visit our city," said Durie.

The work is expected to be completed in time for the Houstonian to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2020. Groups gather here in 33,890 square feet of indoor meeting space and host special events on the grounds' 87,349 square feet of outdoor meeting space. Among other amenities at the property are four restaurants and bars, and the 17,000-square-foot Trellis Spa. Exercisers enjoy the 175,000 square-foot Houstonian Club's state-of-the-art equipment, as well as the more than 250 weekly group exercise classes and aquatic programs, the indoor tennis courts and the resort pool with a rock slide, sports lap pool and quiet garden pool.
