The 100-room River's Edge Hotel in Portland, Ore., has unveiled a new Scandinavian-minimalist design following a comprehensive propertywide renovation.

All guest room were redone, as were the lobby, the fitness center and the 3,500 square feet of meeting space. The hotel is on a tree-lined bend of the Willamette River minutes from downtown Portland.

"Since a redevelopment project began approximately 20 years ago, Portland's South Waterfront has become such a bourgeoning neighborhood, and we're excited to grow with it as River's Edge Hotel begins this new chapter," said Gary Gutierrez, COO of HRI Properties and president of HRI Lodging, which oversaw the renovation and rebranding of the hotel, using SERA Architects for the design. "We're truly on the edge of everything and look forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike for a reenergized yet quintessential Portland experience at our urban retreat."

Simple materials and clean lines were used in both the public spaces and guest rooms, with bold accents and large-scale geometric patterns to add a playful edge. Blues, grays and white with pops of gold were used in the guests rooms, which offer river or hillside views. The rooms also feature ergonomic workspaces, eclectic artwork, and either one or two king-sized beds.

Aside from the 3,500 square feet of refurbished event space, gathering spaces include a 500-square-foot riverside lawn that accommodates 10 to 120 people. The 12,500-square-foot Spa at River's Edge Hotel features 10 treatment rooms and a menu of customizable services.

A new riverfront restaurant will debut soon at the hotel, specializing in modern American cuisine with Mediterranean influences, to be coupled with choices from a comprehensive wine list and a craft-cocktail menu. The restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and will also offer catering options for events.
