Hong Kong-based Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, which first stepped into the Asian market in 2014 with the opening of the 282-room Rosewood Beijing, has set its sights on doubling down on its portfolio in Asia. The luxury chain's expansion strategy includes the opening of several new high-end properties in China, the Philippines and India by 2024.
"We intend to double the number of Rosewood hotels in the next five years, from our current 24 hotels in 15 countries, with a full one-third of new properties located in Asia," said Sonia Cheng, CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group, in a statement announcing the new developments.
Rosewood said it is adding two hotels in China -- the 300-room Rosewood Shenzhen, which will open in 2022, and the 220-room Rosewood Shanghai, opening in 2024. The 128-villa Rosewood Hermana Mayor will debut in 2022, the chain's first in the Philippines, while the 181-villa New World Jaipur Resort in India will open in 2023, making it the brand's first property in the country as well as the first all-villa luxury resort in Jaipur.
Rosewood has rapidly increased its portfolio in Asia Pacific in the last 12 months with several hotel openings in key markets. Unveiled in 2017 were the 229-room Rosewood Sanya on Hainan Island in southern China and the 71-villa Rosewood Phuket in Thailand
In February of this year, the 175-room Rosewood Phnom Penh opened in Cambodia, followed one month later by the 22-room Rosewood Luang Prabang, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site in Laos. Scheduled to debut later this year is the 398-room Rosewood Hong Kong on Victoria Harbor and the 209-room Rosewood Yangon, the company's first in Myanmar.
New properties coming in 2019 include the 159-room Rosewood Bangkok in Thailand and the 259-room Rosewood Guangzhou in China, which will occupy the top 16 floors of the Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre, which Rosewood officials say will be Guangzhou's tallest building.
