Travel-technology giant Sabre Holdings launched the Sabre Eco-Certified Hotel Program on Monday, which recognizes hotels that are certified as sustainable according to guidelines established by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. The new program builds on Travelocity's Green Hotel Directory, extending the designation across all Sabre platforms, including Travelocity, Travelocity Business, Sabre Red Workspace and the Sabre Hotel RFP. The more than 4,700 hotels participating in the program also will be clearly designated in Sabre's global distribution platform. Sabre will only accept hotels that have undergone a third-party audit and are certified by a program that uses the criteria established by the GSTC, a global coalition of U.N. bodies, research and academic institutions, social and environmental NGOs (non-governmental organizations), and certification programs.
