Purchased by Alpha Wave Investors last September, the 250-acre, 205-room Salishan Spa & Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach, Ore., is undergoing a multimillion-dollar transformation.
"Salishan was created as a pure concept - a special place for people to connect with each other, with nature and with art," said Ken Cruse, founding partner and chief executive officer of Alpha Wave. "We plan to bring Salishan back to its roots, but in a way that resonates with modern travelers. The new Salishan will cater to people who respect the planet as deeply as they care for their own personal wellness. The new Salishan will appeal to people who value experiences over material things. The new Salishan will draw people who seek out adventure as well as relaxation. The new Salishan will serve people who appreciate tranquility and solitude as much as camaraderie and personal connections."
The coastal property will undergo improvements to the guest-arrival area and landscaping, and upgrades to the lobby and attic lounge. A new luxury glamping element will be added, as well as a treetop-canopy tour, a ropes-challenge course, mountain-biking trails and new curated art programs. Salishan also has a new management company, Portfolio Hotels & Resorts, which is reworking the property's service model to enhance the guest experience. All work is expected to be completed by July 1.
Wellness will be a focus of the resort, and will be reflected in the new culinary program, which will feature casual coast-to-table dining. Relationships with local farmers, fishermen, brewers, winemakers and artisans will be nurtured to bring in the best local products for kitchen and bar.
All 205 guest rooms have been renovated with a design that fits with the property's wooded setting but includes important needs for the modern traveler, including multiple USB charging ports, and new outdoor decks and patio furniture. The property is about two hours southwest of Portland and features an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary golf course, indoor tennis facilities, a pool, a spa, a sauna and a fitness center. More than 16,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and several outdoor event venues can accommodate up to 300 people.
