AMResorts will temporarily close the 310-room Secrets Playa Bonita Panama Resort & Spa in order to renovate the property and rebrand it as the Dreams Playa Bonita Resort & Spa. The decision comes after "considerable market research and weighing our valued client and partner feedback," according to Colette Baruth, senior vice president of marketing, sales, revenue management and distribution for AMResorts. The resort will close on June 29 and is slated to reopen Oct. 31.

The reflagging of the adults-only Secrets brand to the couples- and families-oriented luxury Dreams flag is based on the growth in demand for family accommodations in the Panama market. Both brands are all-inclusive, but the Dreams property will add an Explorer's Club for kids age 3 to 12 and a Core Zone Teens Club for those 13 to 17. Dedicated on-site wedding planning facilities also will be added, and all meeting space will be fully renovated.

All existing Secrets Playa Bonita Panama reservations for the period in which the hotel is closed will be honored at the 678-room Westin Playa Bonita, which is under the same ownership. Guests who already are staying at Secrets may do so until June 30.

Those with existing Secrets reservations, including groups, will receive Westin's Premium All-Inclusive Package, along with elevated services that include complimentary access to the Starwood Preferred Executive Lounge, exclusive access to the adults-only pool area, 24-hour room service, extended bar hours and more. Alternatively, guests with Secrets reservations can cancel without penalty or can rebook at another AMResorts property and use the value of their existing booking toward that stay. Come November, goups on the books at Secrets will be accommodated at the reflagged Dreams Playa Bonita.
