Starwood Hotels & Resorts is now a member of the Urban Land Institute Greenprint Center for Building Performance, the organizations announced Tuesday. The center represents an alliance of real-estate owners, investors and financial institutions committed to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. "We believe that economic growth and the well-being of society are inextricably tied to the health of the environment," said Starwood CEO Frits van Paasschen in a statement. "We have an obligation to be good stewards to the planet, as our guests choose our hotels both for what is on the insides as well as to experience the communities in which they exist." Simon Turner, Starwood's president of global development, has been appointed to Greenprint's Advisory Board. Starwood joins the 29 existing Greenprint members, which include Blackstone Group, Jones Lang LaSalle and Tishman Speyer.
