Starwood Hotels and Resorts officially announced yesterday the opening of its first all-inclusive resort, the Westin Resort & Spa, Playa Conchal, in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The 406-room property, formerly the Paradisus Playa Conchal Resort, began flying the Westin flag on May 1. Renovations to all guest rooms and public areas are under way and should be complete by December. The new Westin offers dramatic views of Costa Rica's Pacific coastline and is adjacent to a Robert Trent Jones II golf course. Resort facilities include a large lagoon-style pool, a spa, several restaurants, a gym and 6,500 square feet of meeting space. "Recent growth in the all-inclusive luxury resort market in Mexico and Central America, coupled with increasing demand from our Starwood Preferred Guest members for vacation packages, have created fertile conditions for our entry in the all-inclusive market," noted Osvaldo Librizzi, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Latin America.
