Starwood Hotels & Resorts will expand its Mexico portfolio by 30 percent over the next three years, the company announced Friday, with the development of eight new properties. Four are luxury hotels, including the W Santa Fe in Mexico City; W Retreat Kanai Riviera Maya and St. Regis Kanai Riviera Maya, both in a new development on Mexico's Caribbean coast; and the Frida Kahlo Guadalajara, A Luxury Collection hotel. The other four properties will be specialty-select brand hotels, including new Aloft hotels in Mérida and Guadalajara and Four Points by Sheraton properties in Querétaro and Cancún. "Mexico has been a central part of our strategy in the Americas for many years," said Starwood president and CEO Frits van Paasschen, "and we are pleased to see an upswing in the country as U.S. tourists return and business travel picks up." The current pipeline is the largest Starwood has had in Mexico since before the global economic crisis.
