Starwood Hotels & Resorts has signed on to manage the Sheraton Mactan Resort, a new-build property that will include a hotel and branded residences on the coral island of Mactan in the Philippines. The area, in Cebu province, is known worldwide for its excellent snorkeling and scuba diving and also is a popular destination for sailing and island-hopping. Aaccess to the hotel is available via a 10-minute drive from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the Philippines' second busiest airport.

The signing follows the announcements of plans for key pipeline hotels in the region, including the Sheraton Danang Resort and the Four Points by Sheraton Danang in Vietnam; the Westin Manila Sonata Place in the Philippines; the Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Kuta; the Four Points by Sheraton Bintan, Lagoi Bay in Indonesia; and Starwood's debut entry into Myanmar with the Sheraton Yangon Hotel.
