Following similar relocations to China in 2011 and Dubai in 2013, Starwood Hotels & Resorts will temporarily relocate its headquarters to India in March 2015, a move acknowledging the importance of the company's third-largest market. Starwood president and CEO Frits van Paasschen and other top executives will divide their time between Mumbai and Delhi for the monthlong immersion. "Rapidly growing markets and a more interconnected world are bringing high-end travelers to new markets like never before,” said van Paasschen. “As a company with operations in over 100 countries, we at Starwood know that there is no substitute for witnessing firsthand this huge transformation.” The team will meet with associates, customers, owners and prospective developers throughout India during that period, traveling to cities such as Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad and Kochi, as well as to other South Asian countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives. During that month, Starwood execs will be within a five-hour flight from almost 40 percent of the company's global pipeline for new properties, van Paasschen pointed out.
