On June 1, the 400-room Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California, will launch both a name change (it was formerly the St. Regis Monarch Beach) and a year-long $40 million renovation project that followed its purchase by KSL Resorts in 2014. To help celebrate the transformation, the resort has been hosting a series of weekend programs to allow media and travel professionals to sample the new offerings.

The only part of the renovation not open on my recent visit was the new multi-tier pool complex, which is expected to open in time for Memorial Day weekend with an infinity-edge ocean pool, outdoor fire pit, private cabanas and the new Sombra cantina. Already completed is the new lobby, which now features unobstructed views out to the ocean and the “33 North” lounge, salon and patio.

Also completed are the new AVEO Table + Bar restaurant and the Part & Parcel Market. These new food-and-beverage outlets are designed to complement Michael Mina’s Stonehill Tavern, which will continue as the resort’s signature restaurant.

Opened in April, the new Miraval Life in Balance Spa (the first hotel partnership for Miraval) offers spa treatments and movement classes that range from yoga on the resort’s private beach to “cardio drumming.” The resort has also partnered with Dana Point Discoveries to provide guests with activities that include stand-up paddleboard or surf lessons and trail hikes.

For groups, the Monarch Beach Resort offers more than 30,000 square feet of indoor space and an additional 60,000 square feet of outdoor space.
