Meliá Hotels opened two Paradisus resorts in Playa del Carmen in Mexico's Riviera Maya last week. The all-inclusive luxury resorts are La Perla, a 394-suite adults-only property, and the more family-oriented 512-suite Paradisus Esmaralda. La Perla has a pool, a bar, a restaurant and a private beach, and features 60 swim-up suites, with direct pool access from the room terraces. The Paradisus Esmeralda has 56 swim-up suites. A common area, called "El Zocalo," serves both resorts with 10 restaurants, the 20,000-square-foot YHI Spa and Health Club, and an activities center. A total of 25,000 square feet of meeting space in El Zocalo includes a theater, a ballroom and 14 meeting rooms. Activities such as tango lessons, bike tours and wine tastings are provided on-site.
