 The number of rooms in the June U.S. hotel pipeline fell by 6.7 percent from last year, to 296,333, according to the "June 2012 STR/McGraw Hill Construction Dodge Pipeline Report." The in-construction, final-planning and planning stages represent 2,741 hotel projects. The number of rooms in the luxury segment increased, however, rising by 54.4 percent, to 6,358 rooms. The number of rooms under construction in the luxury segment also grew, by 30.5 percent. The economy segment was the only other chain-scale segment to report an increase, rising by 21.5 percent, to 4,223 rooms.
