The U.S. hotel industry posted improvements across the board for the week of April 11, according to Smith Travel Research. Measurements were up year-over-year for occupancy, which rose 5.5 percent, to 60.4 percent; average daily rate, which climbed 1.4 percent, to $98.67; and revenue per available room, which posted a 7 percent increase, to $59.62. Markets with sizeable occupancy increases included Detroit, which rose by 30.3 percent; St. Louis, which posted a 26.4 percent increase; and Chicago, up 25 percent.
