The iconic W Barcelona unveiled a multimillion-dollar renovation this week. All 473 guest rooms have been transformed and a new W Sound Suite has debuted -- the latter a music studio and writer's room, the fourth such suite to appear at a W hotel around the world.

The distinctive sail-shaped hotel has been a landmark on the Barcelona coast since it opened in 2009, and is a popular venue for fashion gatherings and product launches, among many other events. The new room design was inspired by the sea views afforded by many of the rooms, and is based on a color palette of blue with pops of white, teal and rose gold. The carpet design, too, was inspired the Mediterranean, and is based on an underwater view of the sea bed.

The modular furniture in the guest rooms is a nod to Spanish Tapas joints, with chic, small tables and chairs placed underneath hanging lights. Accent pillows in the rooms are adorned with iconic Barcelona characters like Gaudí, Dalí and St. Eulalia, the co-patron saint of the city. New room amenities include Nespresso coffee machines, tea-making equipment, 49-inch flat-screen TVs and Bose Bluetooth sound systems.

The new W Sound Suite is the first in Europe, following successful rollouts at W Hotels in Bali, Seattle and Hollywood. The private music studio and writer's room, which was created in partnership with Coca-Cola, allows professional recording artists, studio musicians and producers -- as well as any other hotel guest in the suite -- to record in style while traveling. The suite includes a private vocal booth and a lounge big enough for artists and their entourages; the space also can be used for master classes in recording, and can be rented for creative brainstorming sessions and the like.

For the music geeks, here are the soundproof suite's specs: Native Instruments provided the Komplete 11 cutting-edge production suite, Komplete Kontrol S-Series control keyboard, Maschine groove production system and the Traktor Kontrol S8 all-in-one DJ system. Shure's new SHR440 headphones are included, along with X2u microphones, KSM32/SL microphone condensers and a BETA 181 microphone.

The Sound Suite was the brainchild of Chicago-based producer DJ White Shadow. "Barcelona is an epic city known for its nightlife, culture and most of all -- music," said DJ White Shadow, who is the North American Music Director for W Hotels. "The latest W Sound Suite at W Barcelona will be the perfect place for international artists to record while on the road. And for hotel guests that have always dreamt of the spotlight, they can book it too!"

W Barcelona will host a new "content" series in collaboration with local record labels and artists to celebrate the suite's opening.

To kick off the new look and amenities, W Barcelona also has collaborated with Spanish artist and muralist Ricardo Cavolo, along with the Spanish shoe brand Muroexe, to create a limited-edition collection of sneakers. The Ricardo Calvo x W Barcelona shoes can be purchased through the hotel.
