A new Waldorf Astoria Hotel might be built in the Old Post Office Building in Washington, D.C., if a proposal submitted by Hilton Worldwide gets approved by the U.S. General Services. The 245-room project would feature world-renowned retailers, 17,000 square feet of meeting space, a 28,000-square-foot fitness center, four restaurants and a spa. The Old Post Office, which dates from 1899, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and sits between the U.S. Capitol Building and the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue.
