The U.S. hotel industry posted year-over-year increases in both occupancy and revenue per available room, according to Smith Travel Research. The average occupancy climbed 5.9 percent, to 59.9 percent, for the week of March 21 to 27, while RevPAR was $58.89, an increase of 4.2 percent. Average daily rate continued to fall, however, and finished the week down 1.6 percent, to $98.29.
