In a move to avoid foreclosure, the owner of the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa has filed for bankruptcy protection. Transwest Resort Properties of Tucson, Ariz., which also owns the Westin La Paloma Resort and Country Club in Tucson, now will work to reorganize its finances and pay back the $209 million it borrowed to finance renovations on the two properties, according to the Post and Courier of Charleston, S.C. The 412-room South Carolina hotel includes more than 30,500 square feet of meeting space and is managed by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. The hotel did not return calls for comment.
